Seaside artworks are one of Thomas Kinkade's most popular subjects. The call of the ocean and crashing waves on rocky cliffs appeal to those who love the sea such as Navy sailors, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and anyone who has ever challenged the sea in a boat or ship.

Cape Hatteras Light ("Lighthouse Landmarks II")
The Cape Hatteras Light tower soars 225 feet into the sky (reputedly the tallest in America); its beacon could be seen by ships navigating these treacherous shores for many miles. Completed in 1870, the conical brick and stone tower has kept its vigil through innumeral storms.

+++++ And this is what Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++
"When the sun sets, the lighthouse reveals its purpose. When darkness shrouds the water, hiding the rocks and shoals, it is then that the beacon of the lighthouse reaches out to ships at sea, warning them of danger and guiding their safe passage.

Cape Hatteras Light glories in the majestic light of sunset. The elegant simplicity of the soaring black and white tower rises dramatically against the turbulent evening sky. Soon this glorious glow in the heavens will fade, and the lighthouse will send its searching finger of light far out into the Atlantic. The Cape Hatteras Light tower soars 225-ft. into the sky (reputedly the tallest lighthouse in America); its beacon could be seen by ships navigating these treacherous shores for many miles.

Completed in 1870, the conical brick and stone tower has kept its vigil through innumerable storms. Though no longer in operation, Cape Hatteras Light still stands-a reminder of God's eternal vigilance on our behalf. Cape Hatteras Light celebrates the generosity of God's bounty as revealed in His sunsets, and the serene strength of His loving guidance, symbolized by this handsome historic lighthouse. By night as well as by day, our path is guided by His light. "

ABOUT CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE

~~~Thom painted Cape Hatteras Lighthouse AFTER after it was moved 2900 feet to a new resting place 1600 feet from the Atlantic Ocean in 1999 to save it from an eroding shoreline. The nation's tallest brick lighthouse at about 208 feet, the Cape Hatteras Light Station had been deluged with ocean waves and threatened by inclement weather for such a long time that experts believed it would have succumbed to the ocean within the next decade had it not been relocated.
~~~U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR via NATIONAL PARK SERVICE executed the evolution of this major move. THE CAPE HATTERAS LIGHT STATION RELOCATION PROJECT NAMED OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT. "The relocation of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a huge milestone in American history, demonstrating engineering ingenuity and technical skills of the USA."

~~The height of the structure, is listed at 208 feet, of which approximately 10 feet are underground. The focal height of the light beacon is 192.20 feet. It remains the nation's tallest masonry lighthouse.

CELEBRITY LIGHTHOUSE

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse remains a popular destination point for Outer Banks visitors following its relocation. Attendance records are being set with as many as 3400 people climbing the lighthouse in one day ! Viewed by more the 20,000 visitors daily, the lighthouse began its journey on June 17, 1999, and arrived at its destination on July 9, 1999, about three weeks ahead of schedule

~~~Once dubbed the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" for its treacherous currents, shoals, and storms, Cape Hatteras Shoreline has a wealth of history relating to shipwrecks, lighthouses, and the U.S. Lifesaving Service
