Cottage by The Sea ("Cottage by the Sea I")
First release in Thom's Cottage by the Sea series. There are currently only two painting in this series. Many of you will recognise some similarities with sold out painting A New
Day Dawning. However, Cottage by the Sea was created some 5 to 6 years earlier.
Cottage By The Sea is based upon a real cottage located between Dolores Avenue and 13th Street in Carmel,
California. Like the cottage in this painting, the home does have a blue-colored roof. Thom said
that this cottage truly only exist in his imagination. In the painting, Thom believes an older
retired sea captain lives here. Notice his ship’s bell is hung on the lamppost. Thom painted this
work at sunset. He said, "After all, what would a seaside cottage be without a beautiful sunset to
watch." The green and red lights on the lamppost is "the same kind of lights used to hang on the
twin smokestacks of Mississippi riverboats as a signal in the night to other boats."
