"I love lighthouses. The severe, uncompromising life of service lived by lonely lighthouse keepers possesses a special dignity. Poised between the last outcroppings of land and the vast expanse of the ocean, the lighthouse has become a profound symbol of human life, poised as it is between the transitory and the eternal."

++++About the Renaissance Edition ~~

Renaissance Edition (R/E)
The Renaissance Edition is a special reserve edition created with a textured brushstroke process that recreates the artist's actual brushwork. It is then finished in oil by a master highlighter who applies a special "Remarque" to the back of the canvas. (This is a sketch)Each unique canvas is created under the artist's close supervision. Upon satisfactory completion, the artist hand signs the front of the canvas and a foil stamped gold Renaissance Edition seal is applied to the back. Each Renaissance Edition is designated by the letter R/E after the print number.

Renaissance Editions are limited to not more than (usually less) 8% of the Standard Numbered edition. The R/E is TEXTURED to match every brush stroke of Tom's original. Individually hand highlighted by Thom's Master Apprentice under his direct supervision. R/E's are 3 times the Standard Numbered price. Additional Hand Signature by Thomas Kinkade on front of canvas.

+++++ And this is what Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++
"Inspiration waits around countless surprising corners. Sometimes I even find it on an inspirational CD! Not long ago, a friend shared spiritual music with me. In the CD cover photos of brilliant lightning flashed.

Moved by the music, I considered the power of lightning. Once it frightened me. Then I was a child, and the fire that ripped the sky was a fearsome mystery. Now I understand lightning to be the power of God made visible, and I take comfort in it.

In Conquering the Storms, sixth in my Seaside Memories collection, I confront images of God's awesome power - lightning, storm clouds, driving winds, pounding surf. Here in truth, is a storm that can shake us to the core of our being. And yet, if we hold onto the rock of our faith, we can ride out any storm.

The massive octagonal lighthouse is an image of that rock; its light guides the sailboat, riding fearsome waves to a safe haven. "Conquering the Storms" is a parable in paint, an inspired affirmation of the great gift of faith, which allows us to accept the power of God as a source of strength."

Trivia
Did you know.....

~~~ Shipping is perhaps the most international of all the world's great industries and one of the most dangerous. Safety for ships at sea was the primary purpose of a Lighthouse.
~~~ Lighthouses in former centuries were a primary aid to Navigation .

~~~ Earliest known Lighthouse ~~1716 (14 September) The Boston Lighthouse on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts, which was the first lighthouse established in America.
~~~ Thomas Kinkade's lighthouses are usually of the kind found in New England ~~ all along the coast and "Conquering the Storm" Lighthouse most closely resembles the one in the town of Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Brant Point, on the western side of the entrance to Nantucket Harbor.

~~~ Celestial navigation is now all but obsolete. GPS is now on every ship of any size.
Definition ~~Global Positioning System GPS is a satellite-based navigation system operated by the US Military, but available for public and commercial operations. Receivers which may be hand held or built into vessels, vehicles, aircraft, etc. receive signals from a series of satellites in precise orbits. From the received data, together with the time delay from each satellite to the receiver, the location of the receiver can be calculated with considerable accuracy, anywhere on the earth's surface or in the air.
