"I love lighthouses. The severe, uncompromising life of service lived by lonely
lighthouse keepers possesses a special dignity. Poised between the last
outcroppings of land and the vast expanse of the ocean, the lighthouse has
become a profound symbol of human life, poised as it is between the transitory
and the eternal."

Seaside artworks are one of Thomas Kinkade's most popular subjects. The call of the
ocean and crashing waves on rocky cliffs appeal to those who love the sea
such as Navy sailors, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and anyone who has ever challenged
the sea in a boat or ship.
Beacon of Hope ("Seaside Memories I") Beacon of Hope os the first lighthouse artwork in Thomas Kinkade's very popular Seaside Memories series.

+++++ And this is what Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++
"The dramatic lighthouse begins my new print series entitled Seaside
Memories; but in truth, the subject of Beacon of Hope is not memory, but
faith.
The lighthouse, which guides ships around rocky shoals to a safe harbor, is a
principal emblem of the spiritual life. And I'm very proud to say that my own
paintings have been described as Beacons of hope.
So Beacon of Hope celebrates not only the longing for salvation, but the
power of art to express that aspiration. The print, which is my first on the
subject, is not a literal portrait; it is, instead, a product of my artist's
imagination, containing the elements of an allegory of faith.
A small boat, barely visible on the horizon, rides heavy seas that surge and
crash onto a rocky coast; the lighthouse beacon is its sole guide. The
keeper's house is a safe haven against all storms - a charming cottage
nestled near a flower laden trellis. And, of course, light -- radiant sunset
and warm lamp glow -- bathes the rocks, erasing their sharp edges."

Beacon of Hope Lighthouse
The Beacon of Hope Lighthouse is typical in architecture to New England
Lighthouses.
~~~ Maine is the Mecca Of New England Lighthouses There are more than 60
lights along Maine's craggy Down East peninsulas !
~~~ One of the most enchanting to view is "Whaleback Lighthouse" which is
owned and operated by the town of Kittery, Maine. Sitting just offshore from
Fort Foster, the light was positioned to protect the Portsmouth, NH harbor.
~~~ The tower was constructed in 1872 of unpainted granite blocks topped with
a fourth-order lens. Today the light shines a revolving DCB-224 airport-style
beacon. The keeper's quarters are integrated into the tower.
~~~ The "Beacon of Hope" is nearest in image to Cape Neddick Lighthouse.
~~~Built in 1879, Cape Neddick is the southernmost of all Maine's
lighthouses It is also called Nubble Light, refering to the barran rocky
island (the Nubble) on which it sits, just off shore. The 41 foot tower is
constructed of cast iron plates lined with brick. Cape Neddick's fourth-order
lens flashes red every six seconds, and is visible for 13 miles.
~~~Cape Neddick is an extremely windy point, and viciously cold 100 mph winds
caused problems with the flow of oil to the lamp for many years, until
electricity came to the Nubble in 1938.
~~Once dubbed the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" for its treacherous currents,
shoals, and storms, this entire coastline has a wealth of history relating
to shipwrecks, lighthouses, and the U.S. Lifesaving Service, Coastguard air
rescue patrol, and search and rescue crews.
