Via Dolorosa ("Way of Sorrows") (Impressions of Israel Collection)
Thomas Kinkade recently flew to Israel in Spring 2006 and painted 10 images. Upon Thomas Kinkade's arrival in Israel, due to the current tight security, his paint thinner was removed. He had to search around to get a replacement so he could start painting. Upon arrival, Thom got to work and started his first piece.

Via Dolorosa ("Way of Sorrows") was painted by Thomas Kinkade in two sessions. Kinkade wanted to add people into this piece. Via Dolorosa is located in the Arab sector of Jerusalem and is said to be the traditional route where Jesus carried the cross. The first arch is said to be the area where Jesus received the crown of thorns.

When Kinkade set up his easel to begin work on this painting, he was swarmed by a group of Arab children. Then was pelted by pebbles (children like to throw rocks and pebbles there) while painting. A local man came to his aid and shooed the children away. The man sent his son to sit near Thom and keep watch so that he could paint. This boy served almost as impromptu security for Thom this day! Was all in good fun.

In conjection with the Minister of Tourism, an Exhibition titled "From Abraham to Jesus" will tour many cities in the United States. The exhibition features 240 artifacts from the Holy Land including the Dead sea Scrolls. Thomas Kinkade's 10 paintings of the Holy Land are included in the Exhibition and "A Prayer for Peace" is the over banner for the exhibit.

++++ About the Examination Proof Edition ~~

+++++ And this is what Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++
"In the Middle Ages, the Via Dolorosa was identified as the route along which Christ carried His cross; I've set my easel at the very spot commemorating where Christ received His crown of thorns.

In addition to being a spiritual landmark for Christians, the Via Dolorosa is also a modern street in the Arab section of the old city. As I worked, small Arab children gathered about me and at one point playfully pelted me with pebbles. Happily, Arab shopkeepers immediately came to my rescue and chased off the pint-sized intruders. I later bought a decorative tile from one of my rescuers as a small gesture of thanks."

Do you know the definition of Plein Air?
A Plein air is a Artwork done by the Artist on location, on the spot, in one sitting, at one time from beginning to end.

Thomas Kinkade Plein Air Canvases

Plein Air, a French term meaning literally "open air", refers to a style of Impressionistic painting that is created outdoors at a portable easel. The artist captures his surroundings at a given moment in time, before the specific lighting and mood of the moment slips away. Plein Air paintings attempt to render the full impact of this light on color, no matter the altered state, rather than adjust the hues to appear more "typical." There is an energy to the brushstrokes, as the artist captures the scene before light changes and the moment is lost. Kinkade has a passion for Plein Air painting. It allows him to capture the joy of the moment, so that he can share it with others for generations to come.

Abraham to Jesus
~~The Thomas Kinkade images painted on location in Israel are featured at the Marquee (entrance) of one of the most astounding exhibitions of this decade. From "Abraham to Jesus" is the largest touring Exhibit of Sacred Text and Artifacts in History.

~~It is recommended that you Google it to get the locations and dates. It will be the first visit to this country of the Isaiah Scroll, as well as the ossuary or bone box -- archaeologists believe held the remains of Simon the Cyrene, the man who carried the cross for Jesus.

~~"From Abraham to Jesus is a 30,000 square foot high-tech entertainment experience designed to help visitors see, hear and feel 2,500 years of Biblical history. The exhibit is a collaboration among The Institute of Archeology of Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the world's top experts in Israeli archeological history and themed storytelling. It uses photomurals, thematic sets, digital surround sound, the first 3D video shot in Israel, state-of-the art lighting and narration, combined with a musical score produced by national recording artist Don Moen. From Abraham to Jesus also boasts never-before-seen paintings by America's most collected living artist, Thomas Kinkade.

~~The exhibit opened Sept. 15 in Atlanta and will travel to 27 other cities.
