Graceland, 50th Anniversary
"Graceland, 50th Anniversary" is Thomas Kinkade's painting released at the Graceland Estate of Elvis Presley in March, 2007.
This release of of his tribute to the King of Rock 'n Roll has become one of Thomas Kinkade's most popular paintings.
The year 2007 marked a very special anniversary for Graceland. In March 1957, Elvis purchased Graceland for his home. To commemorate this historic event, Thomas Kinkade created "Graceland, 50th Anniversary" and unveiled it during the event.
Kinkade visited Graceland in September 2006 to paint a study for the painting, and had this to say:
"Elvis Presley created rock and roll and changed music forever. Graceland was his refuge from the demands of his fame. My hope is that I will capture on canvas a bit of the home that he loved so much. As for me as an artist, I create art that is accessible for everyone, just as Elvis created music that is enjoyed by millions of people the world over. The Elvis I want to celebrate is the private man; the inspiration of how one person can use his or her God-given talent to bring joy to millions of people."

+++++ And this is what Thomas Kinkade said about this work +++++
"Fifty years ago, the King of Rock n Roll bought the palace that became, for him, a
sanctuary from the demands of a very public life, and for devotees of American pop
culture, a Mecca that grows only more famous with the passage of time. Graceland is one of
the most visited homes in America, where legions of fans come to embrace the memories and
the music of the undying rock legend, Elvis Presley.
I grew up with Elvis great songs and movies; my older sister was a huge fan who played his
records until she wore them out. Ive grown to appreciate the energy and high spirits the
King contributed to what has become classic American culture. So, naturally, I was
delighted when I got the opportunity to paint the official 50th Anniversary portrait of
Graceland .
I set up my easel at Graceland on a crisp autumn morning when the stately home was
particularly cozy and welcoming. I was inspired to paint it with smoke curling from the
chimney and a golden light blazing in every window. I finished my sketchy plein-air study
in just a few hours, and then took Graceland, 50th Anniversary to my studio where I
created an image that includes such finishing touches as a likeness of the King and one of
his famous cars. The finished canvas is being offered as a Limited Edition release to
honor the 50th Anniversary of Graceland a home like no other."

Graceland
Did you know.....
~~~~Elvis Presley's Graceland, 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard (formerly known as South Bellevue Road/Boulevard), sits atop a hill in the suburb of Whitehaven, Memphis on U.S. Highway 51. It is around 8 miles south of downtown Memphis and the grounds stretch across 13.8 acres. Whitehaven was originally an unincorporated part of Memphis. It was later annexed by the city of Memphis.
~~~Elvis Presley bought Graceland in March 1957 for just under US$102,500. (Today, it is the property of Lisa Marie Presley under the terms of Elvis' will.) Renovations over the years have seen Graceland grow from 10,266 square feet to 17,552 square feet.
~~~For various logistical reasons the upstairs part of Graceland is not open to the public. There is a symbolic significance in this. Even when Elvis was alive, the upstairs area was regarded as The King's inner sanctum, with the stairs representing the dividing line between it and the rest of the world.
~~~The upstairs area consists of Elvis' bedroom, bathroom, wardrobe room, and office, as well as Lisa Marie's white and gold bedroom and bathroom and a bath and dressing area used by Elvis' girlfriends.
